Starforge Saga

Legacy of Kali'valas

Starsmith (Barnswallowart)

The renowned ancestry of Ashal’valas -- a hard-working family who once thrived among the ancient Highborne as Arcane Crystalsmiths -- still bears its mark upon the world of Azeroth to this very day.In the quiet corners of conversation, there lingers an enchanting tale of their extraordinary cultivation: Kali’valas, or the Forge of the Stars. It is said that its origins lay in the fall of a wondrous star, whose shattered heart bore crystals of a power unknown to the Highborne of old. Drawn from the Heavens and tempered by the boundless essence of the Well of Eternity, these celestial fragments became the foundation of a craft that sought to unite the magic of the cosmos with the artistry of crystal and steel. Whether all that is told of its birth is truth or embellishment, none can deny the wonder that has long clung to its name.At the height of Kali’valas’ splendour, the family embraced the name as their own, in honour of their proudest creation. A name of olden tongue, Kali’valas -- simply meaning Starforge -- became synonymous with a lineage of renowned smiths, whose devotion to their ancient and magical craft was passed down through generations, each adding their own wisdom to the legacy of their forebears.Yet the Forge and its wonders have long since faded into the tapestry of history. Its whereabouts remain uncertain, its secrets scattered to the winds of time, and many dismiss its very existence as little more than an old Highborne fable. Still, whispers of its legend yet endure.Once a lost birthright, Kali’valas and its history have, in recent times, been drawn forth from the depths of obscurity by Nor’andir Starforge, who, through his delving into the past of his bloodline, has begun to reclaim the legacy of his ancestors and carry its name into an age that had all but forgotten it.

Shadows Of The Sun

Mine (AlteyaArt)

An elf hailing from the sunlit boughs of Eversong Woods, Nor'andir found himself as but a faint presence amid the magnificence of Quel'thalas. Born of lowly rank, the elf grew up steeped in the hard-worn values of the working class, shielded by his father’s rare yet steadfast guidance. However, Nor'andir was kept at a distance by the stifling grasp of his mother, resulting in the fleeting presence of his father. As a means for control, she wielded the boy as little more than a pawn; keeping him close if only to tighten her hold over his father, guiding his choices through her manipulation over their son.As a result, Nor'andir's early years were veiled in seclusion, marred by the cruelty of his mother, whose cold embrace cast a shadow over the young boy, marking the onset of a bleak and desolate childhood. Perceiving the 'burden' of motherhood as a nuisance, she constrained Nor'andir to his studies. Thus, the young elf was sent to Ae'thalor Academy in Silvermoon City, a prestigious institution reserved for the noble-born and those few whose gifts proved too remarkable to be overlooked. Nor'andir belonged to the latter, though such distinction did little to endear him to his highborn peers.Of humble station, he was regarded with disdain by both teacher and student alike, by those whose birth had afforded them every privilege, and whose scorn served only to deepen the young elf’s melancholy, driving him ever further into solitude. All save one mentor, Landrastus Valecrest, who met Nor’andir with patience and kindness where others offered only contempt. He saw promise where others saw little worth, and strove to guide the young elf towards mastery of the Arcane, ensuring he might glean the fullest measure of wisdom from his studies and grow into the formidable wielder of magic he was capable of becoming. When the Academy entered its recess between the lunar cycles, Nor'andir's mother would send him away to the enchanted city of Dalaran, where he was made to reside for the duration, sparing her the burden of his presence even in the intervals of his schooling. It was within the scholarly halls of Ae'thalor, however, that Nor’andir sought the friendship of Zuril, the young and venomous heir to Blackcloud. Despite his earnest attempts to befriend the boy, to reach beyond the cruel shadow cast by his father, Zuril met every kindness with cold disdain. And so Nor’andir was left to mourn a friendship that, though he had dearly wished for it, had never been his to begin with. This rejection kindled a rebellious spirit within him, drawing him to others who -- like him -- were outcasts. Yet, though Nor'andir had grown headstrong in the face of adversity, such fortitude could not shield him from the cruelest of losses. Shortly after turning eighteen, his father -- a rare source of warmth within his life -- succumbed to a hereditary affliction that had long haunted his bloodline. This left the young elf adrift in profound grief, bereft of one who had offered him love without condition. With his father's passing, Nor'andir was cast from his own home by the hand of his now widowed mother, left to fend for himself upon the unforgiving streets of Augur's Row. There, he struggled each day to earn his meagre keep, yet the indifference of his kin and the cruelties of those he encountered soon brought him to ruin. Bereft of hearth and livelihood, he was left utterly forsaken, with none to offer shelter nor succour in his hour of need. This suffering lead to the elf naively falling under the oppressive hand of a cruel Grand Magister who feigned to offer him comfort and kindness, unaware of the Lord's dark intentions, and what he truly wanted with the young elven prodigy. Beneath him, Nor'andir's resolve slowly shattered within the harsh shadow of his master’s increasing power. Time made him a fixture, bent upon knee on cold marble floors -- naught else but a servant, forced to endure the cruel, twisted ploy in which he unwittingly played a part.It was within the dire tragedy of his ilk that Nor'andir found salvation; the Fall of Quel'thalas. In the chaos, as his master's estate crumbled -- a daughter perished and his guardsmen out-numbered -- it opened a narrow gap through which Nor'andir could finally escape after countless years under his master's possession. Alas, it came at a terrible cost; his right fore-arm, his homeland and countless, innocent lives.Through it all, Nor’andir survived with a single, solemn vow blistering coldly within his heart; to never set foot in the prosperous ‘High Home’ ever again.

Remnants Of The Phoenix

Survivor (EllirhShaan)

A lengthy trek from the desolated Quel’thalas led Nor’andir to the kingdom of Stormwind, without a home and without purpose -- but a shadow of who he was. His tainted spirit -- bearing the scars of all he had endured -- resulted in the elf descending into self-destructive habits; seeking solace in fleeting pleasures of drink, vice and dangerous uses of magic, spiraling ever closer to a breaking point.Yet, even in this darkest chapter, fate chose to intervene: his former mentor during his time studying at Dalaran, Alissera Reth'aran, had found him.Immediately recognising her young student, the Highborne took Nor’andir under her protective wing, guiding him back from the brink. Through her unwavering care, Nor'andir gradually began to rebuild himself, as well as the cherished bond they had shared. Alissera’s compassion rekindled the memory of his late father's dreams, sparking a desire to revive the path his father had once set for him in becoming a Crystalsmith.Guided by this purpose, he set his sights on honing this magical craft, combining his father’s lessons as a blacksmith with newfound arcane practices. He scoured ancient Highborne texts for traces of the lost profession, eventually finding a mentor in a Draenei artisan who had mastered the art of crystal-forging over countless centuries. With time, discipline and his mentor’s wisdom, Nor'andir refined his abilities; inheriting the smithy and knowledge that the Draenei had left behind upon his peaceful passing many years later.Thereafter, Nor'andir made the craft his own, uniting blacksmithing and sorcery to fashion an extraordinary array of enchanted works: weapons and armour, jewellery, arcane trinkets, and relics imbued with powers of his own devising. Yet his greatest undertaking was perhaps the most personal. To replace his lost right forearm, he fashioned a magical prosthesis of rigid, unyielding crystal, its faintly translucent depths aglow with glacial and violet magicks. Cold and insensible to touch, it nevertheless answered his will, channelling his mana with remarkable prowess. To strengthen its workings, he etched into his own flesh a mimicry of the body's magical networks, and, following the later loss of part of his ear, crafted a prosthesis to restore that, too.Even Nor'andir's afflictions became the proving ground of his ingenuity, and what had been taken from him gave rise to creations wholly his own.

The Mythical Overlaps The Mundane

Friends (AlteyaArt)

After years spent mastering his craft as a Crystalsmith, often exploring the realms of Azeroth as a lone-wolf, Nor'andir found himself drawn into the orbit of a small but formidable group of adventurers; a fellowship bound by shared purpose rather than blood or homeland. This gathering of diverse souls would one day become known as 'Mythos', spearheaded by the Highborne sorceress and Nor'andir's teacher, Alissera Reth'aran.Drawn together by a blend of virtue, ambition and thrill-seeking; each unique member carried their own history, their own secrets. Some bore scars of past betrayals, lingering wounds kept veiled by smiles or stoic resolve, while others held tightly to fragments of ancient knowledge, relics of magic or past misdeeds that could alter the balance of their bonds -- if they ever chose to reveal them. Shadows of former lives whispered in quiet moments, and unspoken motives often glinted behind guarded eyes. Then, there was Nor'andir. With his ever-present smirk and suave charm, he slowly settled into his place within this gathering, weaving his wit and crystalline magics into their battles and triumphs.
For Nor'andir, joining Mythos was both a chance for camaraderie and an opportunity to test his evolving skills in ways he hadn’t yet dared alone -- guarding his companions fiercely, revealing his ferociously protective nature in moments of great peril.
Over time, Mythos became to Nor'andir what he never expected to truly have...A family.Over the years, Mythos had weathered horrors beyond count, standing together against beasts and cults, witches and monsters, the undead and demons, the encroaching Void, and nameless things that dwelt beyond the grasp of mortal understanding. Through bloodshed, curses, and trials that left their mark upon body and soul, they endured; yet even the strongest bonds could not spare them the weight of all they had suffered. Nor'andir would ever hold many among them as family, but there came a time when his spirit, weary of its afflictions, could bear no more.It was amidst these years that he found Zuril once more, quite by chance, at the grave of their former teacher, Landrastus Valecrest, who had fallen in the catastrophe of Dalaran. Stripped of House and throne, and wounded in body and spirit, Zuril stood far removed from the heir Nor'andir had known in their youth. Nor'andir took him beneath his care, nursing him back to health, and from the ashes of their long-lost friendship, there lay at last the love having long blossomed, but simply had never been found. And so, with a heavy heart, Nor'andir turned from Mythos, seeking respite from the horrors that had so long pursued him with his newly chosen Love beside him. He yearned for quieter roads, for distant lands beneath unfamiliar stars, and for the tender work of mending what remained of his wounded spirit -- daring, at last, to hope that life might yet offer him something gentler.

The Winter Wolf

Ice (marosar_art)

Having long since strayed from the customs of his elven kin, Nor'andir wanders still among the vast realms, seeking a quieter path beyond the shadow of Mythos, though by no means one devoid of adventure. Between the ceaseless pursuit of his Crystalsmithing and his ventures into distant lands, he continues to hone the combative arts of the Spellblade, carrying forth the teachings of Alissera. Ever drawn to the beautiful mysteries of this world, he pursues his craft with the same devotion that once saw him through the darkest of trials. It is only in recent times that he has begun to reclaim his forgotten ancestry -- uncovering the hidden beauty of his ilk.And yet, in time, even Quel'thalas called its wayward son home. Long had Nor'andir sworn never to set foot upon its prosperous soil again, and the thought of returning stirred old wounds he had thought long buried. Nevertheless, he answered its call, though not without fear, nor without reluctance. Whether the land that had once forsaken him might ever become a home in truth remains uncertain; yet with Zuri, his Heart, beside him, perhaps in time its sunlit boughs may offer what they once denied him -- a place to belong, and a life no longer governed by the sorrows of years gone by.The elf's past has shaped him into the man he is now. Once the prey to his tumultuous upbringing, he has risen now to become instead the predator. The Carnivore. The Wolf.Though he has left the fellowship that helped forge him, much of what he became was tempered in its fires. The years spent facing horrors beyond reckoning honed him into a formidable Spellblade, teaching him to wield both sorcery and blade with lethal precision. Yet the Winter Wolf is not ever at war; there are still uncharted roads to wander, forgotten places to discover, and quieter horizons beyond the reach of old sorrows. Nor'andir carries these hard-won skills into every new venture, his mastery of Arcane Frost and Crystalmancy ever deepening as he continues his work as a Crystalsmith, fashioning beauty from the very elements with which he once fought for survival. As such, any attempt made to comprehend the essence of who Nor'andir truly is presents a paradox of challenges; he embodies both audacious determination and relaxed composure, his expression often adorned with a sly grin that only hints at concealed depths. Proficient in an array of talents, he effortlessly wields both cutting wit and Arcane abilities of crystal and ice, whether amidst the chaos of combat or through the meticulous refinement of his intricate inventions. In spite of his suffering, the young spellblade still carries within him a gentle heart -- vehemently guarded behind a frigid facade of feigned nonchalance -- profoundly protective and loyal to the very core of his being.

Forged Bonds

Zuri

“Zuri..? Where do I even begin...Born into duty, sharpened into a blade for his father. Cruel. Always reminding me I was just a runt. Lesser. Though perhaps… he saw in me something he had long been denied himself. Freedom. It took me far too long to understand that all that fire was never truly hatred, but the anguish of an elf burning from within. Zuri is not heartless; if anything, he feels too much. Caught between the Monster he was raised to become and the Elf buried beneath it all, I reckon that war near tore him to pieces.Stars, do I love him.He is my fiercest flame, my heart's undoing, the warmth I never knew I was missing until I found myself standing in his fire's light. I cannot undo the hurt that made him, but I can love every part of him he has been taught to hate.”

Alissera Reth'aran

“When it felt like the whole world was looking down on me, there was only ever one who willingly reached out and took my hand. What began with an uncertain mentor slowly blossomed into something far more, as Alissera became a remarkable presence in my life. She has been more than a teacher or a guide. She has been the mother I needed -- the mother I never thought I would have, and never knew just how much I was missing. To this day, I still do not quite know what it is she sees in me… Something that nobody else seems able to find. But her warm embraces and proud smile, her sincere laughter and steadfast heart… they inspire within me the person I might yet become.”

Sulfar Nightfall

“I first met Sulfar when I was just a boy, only a handful of times. Strange, looking back now, to think of that young elf who was once a little afraid of him, and the man I have become, working and hunting at his side. Like Alissera, Sulfar sees something in me -- though he certainly has… a different way of bringing out my potential. His lessons are rarely gentle, but I suppose there is wisdom to be found in a little hardship, too.Still, I am grateful for it. For him. For the patience he shows in his own way, and for the things he teaches me that I might never have learned on my own.I only hope that, in time, I can make him proud, too.”

Sylvari Windsong

“Sylvari... A wildflower. Think she had come close to putting bark over my mouth in an effort to shut me up more times than I can count, but I always caught that mischievous spark in her eyes when she thought I wasn't paying attention. She had this prickly side when we first crossed paths -- like a cactus, heh -- but it had been a joy watching her soften, seeing her let the world in a little more, bit by bit. There was always more to her than those thorns, and I only wish she could have seen herself the way I saw her.We had a bond like no other, something I would not have traded for all the riches in Azeroth. And now… she is gone. I do not know if I will ever see her again, or if the stars have claimed her for good. Some foolish part of me still hopes she is out there somewhere, finding her way back to us. I suppose I will hold on to that for as long as I can.Stars. I miss her.”

Valodriel Wavesinger

“My time travelling with Mythos has led to many surprises, and meeting the old man was certainly one of them. For the longest time, I did not know what to make of Valodriel, and truth be told, I still struggle to get a read on him.Slowly, I have seen a warmer soul emerge from beneath all those years and hardships. He certainly acts as old as he is, that is for sure… but somewhere along the road, he became important to me. I found myself seeking his approval, hoping to see that rare glimmer of pride in his eyes. And now… I fear I have ruined that. Grief and anger got the better of me, and I did things I cannot take back. Perhaps some part of me still blames him, but that does not quiet the regret.I... wish things had ended differently.”

Talias Daywing

"Ah. Where do I even begin with Talias…I was a little afraid of them at first, I will not lie. Like Sulfar, they carry immense power within them, wielded with such effortless grace and control -- yet they go about things with such a casual, almost flippant air. It is a curious thing to witness. But there is something else about them that I have come to admire. No matter how bleak things become, they can still find a reason to smile, to laugh, to remind the rest of us that all is not yet lost. There is a courage in that, I think. A kind of hope that even the darkest night cannot quite snuff out.I find myself looking to Talias when my own resolve begins to falter. I only hope that, when the time comes, I can be even half as worthy of their faith as they have been of mine.”

Cialyn Kal'shalla

"Funny, how quickly someone can come to mean so much to you. I see so much of myself in them that it almost frightens me.They have such a brilliant mind, such a compassionate heart. A kindness that comes naturally, even when the world gives them little reason to offer it. But there is a depth to Cialyn that they would rather keep buried. Something in themselves they cannot bear to face, something that frightens them so deeply they would sooner turn away than understand it.Stars above, do I know that feeling.I only hope that, in time, I can help them see -- that there is no shame in the parts of ourselves we fear most. Whatever lies beneath the surface… it is still them. And they deserve kindness, too.”

Astrallore Delthir

"My first meeting with Astrallore was… less than ideal, to put it kindly. I very nearly killed the poor elf over a case of mistaken identity, and I still feel a measure of guilt for it. Though, to hear him tell it, he had rather enjoyed himself. I suppose I ought to be grateful he has a sense of humour about the whole affair, lest I never hear the end of it.But that is Astrallore, really. An absolute menace in the most endearing sense of the word, forever finding some way to make me laugh when I least expect it. Silly, sharp-witted, and frightfully brilliant beneath all that mischief. There is a warmth to him that makes even the dreariest days feel a little less bleak, and I find myself all the fonder of him for it.I do not think he realises just how much light he brings into the lives of those around him, and were the Heavens to surrender every star, I daresay his would still be the one to outshine the dark."

Aeritheros Sunwood

“At a very dark point of my life, Aeritheros found me -- and despite all that darkness, he still chose to stay. Even when I cursed at him, spat venom, shoved him away, and demanded he leave......He stayed. It is a rare thing, finding someone who sees you at your very worst and chooses not to turn away. I am frightened to think where I might have ended up had it not been for his perseverance, his patience, and that steadfast loyalty of his.He stood by me when I could barely stand myself. I haven't seen him in a long while... I hope he's okay.”

The Star's Anvil

Kali’valas. The ‘Forge of the Stars’.

She rose from the center of the Star's Anvil akin to a monument, lifted in praise to the Heavens. An immense crystalline spire of arclight and starlit energies, all bound in ornate metalwork that smoothly curve; finely-cut shapes and delicate edges formed to channel the ancient magicks of the Forge.Pristine and with vivid purpose, Nor’andir had rebuilt Her as if it were an act of art -- a devoted worship -- an effort that ensured She functioned not only without flaw, but to Her Absolute.

Workshop in Drake Manor

In the remaking of Kali’valas, Nor’andir wrought with foresight. From Her broken shards he fashioned lesser crucibles scattered abroad, so that he might draw upon Her flames wherever the need should arise. One such forge now burns within the halls of Drake Manor -- a fair and storied dwelling wherein he once abided with Mythos -- its power but a quiet echo of the greater Forge, yet no less radiant in its appointed task. This is but one of three additional -- albeit smaller -- workshops that Nor’andir keeps, where the other two hone likewise crucibles, wrought in the power of Kali’valas.

Mythos

“How suddenly these once strangers became family to me. We never set out to become legends, nor did we imagine all we would endure together. For a time, they were my home. My kin. And though I have since walked a different road, leaving them behind was not easy.My bonds with many of them remain whole and cherished still, but I suppose Mythos will always be a piece of home that I can never quite return to.”

Frostfire

"You ask me if I am weak, Nor'andir..?I am the Viper of Silvermoon, the slayer of bloated nobility, our own kin. I have walked across the plains of Felflame unbidden, unguarded. I am the Champion of Zin-guo, the guardian of Juifen, the Ignited Path.Yet while others guard their hearts behind plate and steel, mine walks about wreathed in shimmering crystals and sapphire etchings, crowned with chestnut curls and bearing the brightest of smiles. So, again, you ask me if I am weak? Yes, I am weak, Nor'andir. You are my weakness. Against you, I am powerless."
